Summary
“Our Words Will Not Be Heard” opens with Benson facing a lawsuit from Jayvon Brown, the Black man whose detention in Central Park began the season. Chief Garland warns her that Brown’s new legal team wants change rather than money and that she could be made a scapegoat. Fin takes Kat to celebrate her promotion to detective with Benson and his girlfriend, Sgt. Phoebe Baker. That night, street performers Sara Harper and her girlfriend, Alicia Ford, who uses a wheelchair, accept a ride in a wheelchair van from a friendly white woman with a young son, Forrest. Once the woman and boy are dropped off, a gunman forces Sara into sex acts with Alicia on camera, then dumps Alicia and keeps Sara.
IAB Capt. Renee Curry tells Benson she will be cleared, since headquarters will not admit errors. Nicole Harper, a prominent advocate for missing Black women and a friend of Carisi’s, reports her sister Sara missing and says she has received threats. A dark-web video from a New Jersey hate group, Crew Twenty Three-Two, shows the assault and announces an auction of Sara’s fate, with a livestream set for midnight. At her deposition, Benson tells Brown privately that a court-ordered consent decree would achieve more than a show trial. The squad stages the arrest of Gary Packer, an undercover officer inside white-nationalist circles, who recalls the masked man’s phrasing from a Florida rally and identifies his wife from her wallet. Alicia confirms that Molly Anderson lured them, and Molly’s husband, IT consultant Rick Anderson, is the kidnapper.
Citing exigent circumstances, Carisi has Molly questioned without a lawyer, but she holds out. Nicole goes on television to say the NYPD is doing too little, and the kidnappers, watching, add murder to the auction; Sara kicks over the camera, revealing a basement wall. Faced with federal charges and losing her son, Molly pages her brother, Steve Lang, the second kidnapper. When he tries to call her back, Rick shoots him. TARU traces the call to a few blocks in Chelsea, and the squad searches homes of Rick’s clients until it finds Steve wounded in the basement of a brownstone whose owners are away.
Spoiler, the ending: Rick, livestreaming from the street, lets Sara go and surrenders, and is taken into custody. Sara is reunited with Nicole and Alicia, and Nicole thanks Benson and Carisi but vows to keep pushing for missing women without her connections. Garland tells Benson that Brown’s team came back demanding bias training and civilian oversight, as if someone inside had advised them, and warns her to keep her distance from Stabler, who is said to be going rogue at Organized Crime.
