Summary

“Eighteen Wheels a Predator” begins when Kayla Stuart, dumped by text, drinks free tequila shots at a bar on Columbus Avenue and is later found raped and unconscious in the rain in Central Park, her jeans folded neatly beside her. Rollins learns that Kayla was struck from behind and never saw her attacker. Bartender Dustin Tinsley, who offered her a ride and has a record of domestic violence charges, is arrested after the squad catches him dealing drugs. His sister and coworker, Demmy, says he got home after 3 a.m. and showered. His room holds Kayla’s wallet, muddy boots and a gun, his DNA is in her mouth from a kiss, and Carisi says there is enough to indict while Chief McGrath pushes for a quick win.

Then a caller with a flat Midland accent tells Benson the police have the wrong man, mentions the folded jeans, a detail never released, and says he has just done it again. The call traces to a Kentucky truck stop outside Bear Creek, where Chief Owen Berry has just found 19-year-old Shay Landry unconscious, her pants folded beside her. Fin and Rollins fly down. DNA from Shay’s rape kit matches 15 kits in more than a dozen states going back to 2001, when Dustin was a child, and he is released. A task force forms around an attacker who follows the interstates. Kayla and Demmy recall a man who played country music on the jukebox, and bar video ties him to Walker Trucking and shows him waiting outside for Kayla.

With none of the rape victims able to describe him, the squad looks for women who got away. Raelynn Cole, attacked six years earlier outside a tavern, was never given a rape kit because the attack was incomplete; she escaped when his phone rang and his wife called him Wes. She picks out a driver’s photo: Aaron Wesley Parker, with the company since 2001, whose routes match the attacks. Benson and Fin go to his home near Reading, Pennsylvania, find him at a casino’s slot machines, and Benson chats with him until he mentions the New York storm before arresting him for 26 rapes.

Spoiler, the ending: In New York, Demmy is found beaten and raped. She admits she found Kayla’s wallet in the park, thought Dustin had attacked Kayla and planted it in his room, and says he has been raping her since she was 12; she is not charged. Dustin, whose DNA is in her rape kit, claims she wanted it and faces rape and assault charges. Questioned by Fin, Parker boasts on video and hopes for a TV special about himself. At McGrath’s press conference, Benson credits Fin and Rollins.
