Summary

“Impropriety” opens with teenagers dropping an unconscious girl outside a hospital and speeding off in an SUV. Over breakfast, Griffin returns a stack of Benson’s old case files to Tynan, saying he found only minor slips, and accuses her of undermining Benson and setting him up as the fall guy; Tynan, who was close to his father, says she is just being a boss. The girl, Emma Burns, 16, of Carlton Prep, has a brain bleed, signs of sexual assault and lorazepam in her system. Fin, back at work, chases a classmate, Ethan Weiss, whose phone warns friends not to snitch. Four seniors lawyer up, so Carisi tells their lawyers he will deal only with the first to talk. Ethan says they partied at John Gallagher’s apartment, that he dropped Emma while carrying her into the hospital, and that she went into a guest room with Matt Davis. Matt’s lawyer produces a test showing lorazepam in Matt too.

Emma, awake, tells Benson that John’s mother, Talia Fedorov, served them drinks, told her Matt liked her and offered the guest room. Talia invokes her father, retired judge Owen Fedorov, but Fin and Griffin arrive with a warrant and find a hidden camera in the guest room linked to her phone. Her sealed youthful-offender record shows she once photographed college athletes through a dorm window. Judge Kevin Ryan, an old friend of her father, refuses to recuse himself, and Owen Fedorov urges Carisi to go easy; Carisi refuses both. Emma confides to Benson that an uncle molested her when she was 12 and that her mother kept quiet because he paid the family’s bills, and Benson promises to keep it secret. Separately, Curry questions a retired IAB sergeant about Jimmy Griffin’s old bar shooting of Dennis Reeves, who claimed the gun was planted; Tynan, Griffin’s partner then, backed him, and the gun has since vanished.

When Emma panics before testifying, Benson takes the stand instead. Defense attorney Trevor Langan asks whether Emma ever reported an earlier assault, and Benson refuses under the Rape Shield Law; Ryan holds her in contempt and has her taken into custody. Emma then tells everyone about her uncle, saying she had also told Talia, who passed it to the defense. She testifies that Talia tried to use her secret to break her.

Spoiler, the ending: The verdict goes the prosecution’s way. Tynan then arrives at the squad room, praises Benson’s years at SVU and suspends her on the spot for being held in contempt and jailed, taking her gun and badge. Carisi promises to appeal.
