Summary

The Case

“The Devil at Home” sends the team after Cody Raynor, wanted for a fatal carjacking in Arkansas, whom they arrest at an apartment building in Livingston on a postman’s tip. A crash exposes about a million dollars hidden in his truck, and his pistol matches a killing in a Texas clash between the Jalisco and Sinaloa cartels. Raynor’s phone leads the marshals to a Broken Rock stash house full of fentanyl: the Jalisco cartel has built a hub on the reservation, and lab tests tie the batch to a wave of overdose deaths.

The house belongs to an elderly woman whose niece married Hector Diaz, a Jalisco man who keeps in touch with a cartel shot caller, Dolfo Guzman. Then Raynor is stabbed to death in jail, a DEA agent accuses the marshals of ruining his investigation, and Gifford orders the unit off the case. Miles, whose lifelong friend Sabrina has died of an overdose, goes after Diaz anyway and misses a date with Maddie, who begs Cal to find him. The team tracks Miles to a gunfight, arrests Guzman, and Kayce talks Miles out of executing Diaz. Cal then suspends Miles and takes his badge and gun.

The Team

After Garrett’s death, Kayce clears the burned barn at East Camp while Tom Weaver offers to rebuild it and repeats his wish to buy the ranch. Tate tells his father that home is wherever Kayce is, and that East Camp is where his mother fell ill and died. At a bar where the team toasts Garrett, Andrea complains that Montana took away her soft landing, and Miles admits he dreads testifying before a Senate subcommittee.

Gifford pulls Andrea away to impress Justice Department visitors and to watch Archer Aviation’s founder, Adam Goldstein, show off the Midnight aircraft, and later offers her a vacancy in the Washington office. Sabrina’s death is the third overdose on Broken Rock that month, while Council Member Nathan Irons tells Rainwater that fighting the mine is a mistake. Belle is confronted by a collector over $20,000 she owes the casino and is refused a cash advance on her credit card.

Cal tells Belle that the pain in his neck and shoulder comes from a Pancoast tumor at the top of his lung, a sign of cancer, and that he does not want to face it alone.

Spoiler, the ending: Kayce sits down with Tom Weaver and Dolly on the porch where he once sold the Yellowstone. Weaver urges him to let go of whatever is weighing him down, and the episode ends with Kayce asking to hear the terms of a deal, with no decision made.
