Summary

“Star-Struck Victims” opens with vlogger Kristi Cryer filming herself in a hospital as she waits for a rape kit. She tells Rollins and Carisi that Noel Panko, manager of Bobby D’s Hideaway, raped her in the club’s restroom. The club belongs to TV actor Bobby D’Amico, whom Deputy Chief William Dodds calls a friend of the department; the chief has just asked Benson to back his son, Sgt. Mike Dodds, for a post on the Joint Terrorism Task Force. On the set of his new streaming series, D’Amico tells Dodds he and then Panko had consensual sex with Kristi in the bathroom. Kristi admits she went in with D’Amico and gave him oral sex, but says she refused Panko, who raped her after the actor left. Club footage shows her back on the dance floor ten minutes later, and Barba, with the chief calling the case weak, declines to charge.

Kristi answers with a vlog that goes viral, accusing both men and SVU, and in a new statement says D’Amico held her head down to finish while Panko watched. A follower, Tara Browne, a production assistant on D’Amico’s series, describes the same bathroom routine down to a line about Panko’s “puppy eyes,” but will not testify. Barba still will not prosecute, and Rollins and Dodds argue over it. That night Rollins, posing as a tourist at the club, is led to the bathroom by the two men, who ignore her refusals until she fights them off. Rollins arrests them for attempted rape, but Dodds, who followed her, points out that they had already asked for counsel, their lawyer, John Buchanan, threatens a lawsuit, and both men go free.

Benson is furious that Rollins went undercover without telling her. Barba considers the recording inadmissible, but the repeated pattern moves him to try the case on Kristi’s testimony. On the stand she describes the assault, then Buchanan walks her through her shifting accounts, the jump in her video views after the accusation and footage of her partying that night, and she breaks down. Barba hopes to use Rollins’s video to impeach the defendants if they testify, but Buchanan rests without calling anyone.

Spoiler, the ending: Almost as soon as it retires, the jury acquits Panko and D’Amico of rape and sodomy. A news report then airs Rollins’s undercover video, which the jury never saw, and D’Amico’s series looks finished. Benson accuses Rollins of leaking it and says she cannot trust her; Rollins swears on her daughter that she did not. Dodds tells Benson he believes Rollins because he knows who did it, assures her it cannot be traced and suggests she stop asking, adding that D’Amico got what he deserved.
