Summary

“She Paints for Vengeance” begins two weeks before Christmas at the Topaz strip club, where retired football star Markeevious Ryan asks dancer Monica Russo into the VIP room alone. Over a month later, with her calls to the local precinct unanswered, Monica paints a billboard about being raped in a strip club, and Benson sees it while out with Noah. Another club’s dancers warn that Topaz’s manager, Jared Desanto, is a former cop, and the detectives spot the motorcycle from the billboard at Topaz. Officer Donald Donahue admits he took Monica’s complaint, called Desanto, decided it was false and threw it away.

Detectives find Monica working at an S&M club, but she sends them off. A dancer, Moet, confirms that Monica blamed Markeevious, who now owns a steakhouse. Monica then tells Benson that he pinned her to the wall, threw her to the floor and raped her, and that Desanto told her to stay quiet because Markeevious was a good customer. Markeevious says he paid $800 for consensual sex and left a $200 tip. After the club returns her belongings ruined, Monica fires the squad and chains herself outside his restaurant, calling him a rapist, and is arrested. Benson brings in lawyer Dara Miglani, and Carisi, taking the arraignment from another ADA, gets Monica released without bail. Rollins, back early from leave, tells Carisi she may quit therapy.

When Markeevious threatens to sue Monica, Miglani holds a press conference, and two women come forward: Izzy Correa, a former masseuse, and Jan Erickson, a former sports journalist, describe the same blank stare and attack. Carisi gets an arrest warrant for Markeevious, but at a Molineux hearing defense attorney Elana Barth, a former judge, argues the stories were coordinated, and the judge excludes both women. At Carisi’s first trial, Barth’s cross-examination uses the money, the discarded report and Monica’s failed art career to paint her as a performer seeking attention. Carisi tells Benson he is ready to quit; she tells him to bring Markeevious into the fight. On redirect Monica dares Markeevious to face her, and he testifies. Under Carisi’s questioning he says women only want his money and that nobody refuses him.

Spoiler, the ending: After three hours the jury finds Markeevious guilty of first-degree rape. Monica makes a new artwork featuring seven keys, one key for every year Markeevious will serve.
