Summary
“Corrosive” opens at a dinner honoring Judge Warren Fels, Carisi’s former law professor and mentor, as Judge of the Year. During the speeches a video tip reaches SVU in which a young woman accuses Fels of raping her in his robing room on November 15. In the hotel garage afterward, a young man shoots Fels in the chest in front of Carisi, who calls for an ambulance and stays with him. Fels survives surgery, and Carisi insists he is innocent. Spotting an escort app on the woman’s phone, the squad books her; Curry meets Elsa Clark, a 20-year-old student whose story sounds memorized, and Saturday night arraignments turn out to have no robing room. Fels refuses to talk without a lawyer.
At Elsa’s dorm, detectives arrest Jeremy Coleman, who has the gun and says he shot the “devil” Fels for Elsa, and take roommate Matt Miller in for obstruction. A traffic stop places Elsa in New Jersey on November 15, riding with a man named Robbie. At the precinct Matt, who has cigarette burns, has a panic attack. His father, Rob “Robbie” Miller, an ex-convict who claims to work undercover for intelligence agencies, has been living in the dorm. Former roommate Colleen Keane calls the room a cult: Robbie moved into Elsa’s bed and quizzed Colleen about her virginity, so she left and requested a welfare check. Matt reveals that his father burned him as a boy and had Matt film sessions in which Robbie jabbed tweezers into Jeremy’s ears until he agreed Fels must die.
A search turns up the videos and ledgers showing Elsa earned Robbie over $200,000 through sex work to pay invented debts. Elsa begins to see that her talk of “corrosive” parents is Robbie’s word, not hers. Fels tells Carisi that Robbie, a family friend, once asked him to make money-laundering charges disappear and that he reported it. Rollins arrests Robbie, who screams that Fels should have died. At trial the judge lets Robbie act as co-counsel, and Matt collapses under his questioning. Jeremy refuses Carisi’s plea offer so the defense cannot call him bought, then testifies about the sessions.
Spoiler, the ending: The jury convicts Robbie of sex trafficking, extortion and labor trafficking. As the verdicts are read, Matt erupts, shouting at his father that he ruined his life.
