Summary
“Accredo” opens at a workshop for Accredo, a women’s empowerment group. That night a young woman is found in a SoHo loft, stabbed 13 times, sexually assaulted with a table leg and missing a piece of flesh from her rib cage. Rollins, pregnant and given a week before Benson must tell 1PP, retches at the scene. The loft belongs to the parents of Abby Shane, who is alive; the victim is her new roommate, Vicky Parson, who had quit her job, dumped her boyfriend and joined Accredo. At the group’s house, leader Arlo Beck greets Rollins by remarking on her pregnancy and her fears, and the group points the detectives to Vicky’s abusive ex, Brad Simon, who posted intimate photos of her with threats.
Fin and Carisi find Vicky’s blood on Brad’s shoes and jeans, but bar video shows him leaving with Gina Goodrich, an Accredo member with a mark under her arm in the same spot as Vicky’s wound. Members call it a brand marking their progress. Beck’s ex-wife and cofounder, Marina Basso, says he slept with his coordinator, Lilah Finch. Gina’s estranged husband, Tyler, who is photographing the group, has a picture of Gina with her foot on Vicky. In interrogation, Rollins loses her temper and forces Gina to the floor before Benson stops her. Gina admits she was Vicky’s master under the group’s rules and that she planted Vicky’s blood on Brad’s clothes, getting it from Lilah, because Vicky was about to leave. Inner-circle members hand over collateral such as deeds and nude photos, and the brand means “At His Mercy.” Rollins later apologizes for her outburst, explaining that she grew up with a father who beat her mother.
Data from Lilah’s fitness tracker, recovered by TARU, puts her near the loft, with her heart rate climbing and staying high for 40 minutes during the murder, and she is arrested in the middle of a class. Benson urges her in jail to think of her own future, and Lilah ends up admitting she killed Vicky on Beck’s orders. Facing Beck and his lawyer, Accredo member Claudia Bell, Rollins tells him she does not love the father of her baby, and Benson calls him the worst kind of predator for turning women’s trust into a weapon. Rollins then tells Claudia that real strength cannot come from men like Beck.
Spoiler, the ending: Claudia posts Beck’s bail, then calls Rollins to say he is heading for Westchester County Airport, and he is caught before takeoff because his private jet was never fueled. Rollins tells Benson she will notify 1PP of her pregnancy, take desk duty, and say that Benson did not know, and that the baby’s father is Al Pollack.
Why it stands out
- Sebastian Roché, who had made two guest appearances on the original Law & Order, plays Accredo leader Arlo Beck.
- Rollins reveals that Dr. Al Pollack is her baby’s father, ending the squad’s guessing about her pregnancy.
