Summary

The Case

“Bad Campers” opens at Camp Good North, a clothing brand’s camp for at-risk youth, where co-founder Wes Ellsworth and his brother Jeremy unveil the 20th anniversary collection, and Jeremy privately warns that Wes’s behaviour threatens the family. Wes is next seen dead in his Liberty Village loft, his throat cut and his chest stabbed repeatedly. He used the loft for affairs, and street footage shows his fiancée, Ella Mitchell, following him there.

Ella says she then spent the night at a friend’s house. Flowers Wes sent lead to Kiera Vega, an Apex crisis consultant, who admits he hired her to find dirt on Javi Day, a fashion student with faked references. Javi’s roommate, Eliza, says Wes mentored him, then vanished; the detectives conclude Wes stole his designs. Javi, caught on camera knifing Wes’s car, admits confronting him, but Wes’s $10,000 payout reached him only after the murder, and classmates give him an alibi.

The payment came from Wes’s numbered company, which also pays the camp cook, Ernie, $5,000 a month. Ernie recalls a camper whose cocoa made her pass out, an empty bottle of sedatives in the trash and Wes’s warning that a fuss would close the camp. The girl, Santana Carter, describes waking after those nights with a headache and pain she did not understand; the detectives conclude she was drugged and sexually assaulted. Apex had a Reddit comment about the camp removed; Kiera says Wes later spoke hypothetically of pills in girls’ food, and that she told Jeremy the day before. Jeremy denies killing his brother, and his alibi holds.

The Interrogation

Camp records show one girl’s slot empty in 2011; the paper registry holds the missing name, Mabel Perez, and a collage shows Kiera’s face: before her adoption at 14 she was Mabel, a foster child of ten. Her foster mother, Ms. Pryor, recalls her endlessly drawing a symbol from a boogeyman’s arm, the portage tattoo Wes wore. Holness asks why Kiera waited 15 years and then weeks more.

The detectives confront Kiera, whose firm has just signed Good North. They argue she posted the comment to bait the guilty brother, won Wes’s trust and killed him once he admitted what happened at the camp. Then they tell her Wes was away ill in 2011: both brothers wear the tattoo, and only Jeremy was there. Wes’s crime was silence. Told that a confession naming her motive would be evidence against Jeremy, Kiera describes seeing the tattoos at the party, feeling ten again, and fixing it when Wes admitted the truth in his loft.

The ending

Spoiler: Officers interrupt Jeremy’s press statement about his late brother and handcuff him. Kiera has confessed, but no charge against either is stated on screen.

Suspects’ fates: Kiera Vega, other or unclear; Jeremy Ellsworth, arrested.
