Biography
As Deputy Crown Attorney, Theo Forrester decides whether the Major Crime Unit’s cases are strong enough to take forward, starting with the premiere, “The Key to the Castle,” first aired in 2024, where he judges the suspect’s motive too thin. He can set suspects against each other, as in “Minnow and the Shark,” when he gathers two food executives and their lawyers in one room and offers immunity on price-fixing to just one of them. More often he sends the detectives back for more, refusing a warrant in “Three Points” until the killer’s handwriting turns up on a demo letter the victim rejected.
Forrester came to Toronto from Jamaica at seven to live with his grandmother. In “White Squirrel City” he remembers being handed a snowball with a rock in it as a newcomer, and declines to hurry an adult murder charge against a 15-year-old girl. “Face Value” takes him to trial, where the judge sustains several defence objections as he and Graff push too far, before he cross-examines the accused son, who faked his degrees, and confronts him with his father’s plea to a therapist.
In “Uncertain Justice” he puts pathologist Victor Plath on the stand at a preliminary inquiry and follows him with Da Silva, who tells the court Plath’s findings were biased and his other autopsies substandard. He stays on into season 4; as of “The Scorpion and the Tortoise” he is still the brake on the detectives, telling them a sterilized saw gives no grounds for a search warrant, and the suspect walks out.
